Results
The Malone University men's and women's swimming & diving teams competed in a dual meet at Urbana University Friday evening as both Pioneer squads lost to the host Blue Knights. The Malone men were edged 103-91 while the women fell by the score of 90-27. In addition, one Pioneer record was broken in the men's meet.
For the Pioneer men, the squad's 200 medley relay unit of
Casey Meeson,
Grant Gillilan,
Mason Geib and
Tyler Lunsford opened up the meet by posting a time of 1:45.61. Then, in the first individual men's event, a pair of Malone men bested two Urbana swimmers in the 1000 freestyle as
Zachery Reuther and Geib finished 1-2 in the event with times of 11:12.78 and 11:13.11, respectively.
Jesse Dwyer posted a new school record in the 200 freestyle by powering through the water in a time of 1:53.30 (previous Z. Reuther, 1:54.48). In that same race,
Jesse Martin was close behind in 1:57.98. Later, in the 500 free, Dwyer finished first among four swimmers in 5:02.43.
In the 100 free,
Chase Hooley blazed through in a time of 50.79, just .62 seconds off the school mark. In the 50 free, Hooley touched the pad in 22.95 followed closely by
Royce Kantner in 23.05.
Gillilan paced Malone in the 200 individual medley event with a 2:09.13 while Lunsford led the Pioneer charge in the 100 butterfly in 59.95.
In the 100 backstroke, Meeson paced the squad with a solid time of 58.01, which was .63 seconds off the school record. Gillilan and Hooley, in the 100 breaststroke, finished 1-2 among the four-man field in times of 1:03.13 and 1:04.09, respectively.
In the final men's event of the night, the 200 freestyle relay unit of Kantner, Lunsford, Reuther and Dwyer posted a time of 1:35.48 for second place among three teams.
In the women's meet, Emily Duncan bested two Urbana swimmers in the 200 freestyle by posting a first-place time of 2:12.47. She followed that effort up with a time of 1:13.16 in the 100 butterfly. In the 100 breaststroke, Duncan defeated her opponent with a first-place time of 1:18.57.
The Malone teams will next compete in a dual meet at The College of Wooster on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
