The Malone University men's tennis team earned its second straight win of the season by pocketing a convincing 9-0 home victory over Waynesburg University (PA) at the Green Tennis Club in Green, Ohio on Friday night. In addition, all of the match wins came in straight sets for the Pioneers with only one Waynesburg athlete taking more than two games in any set.
With the non-conference win, the Pioneers improved to 2-4 overall on the season (remaining at 0-2 in the GLIAC) while the Yellow Jackets suffered their first loss of the season and fell to 3-1 overall.
Youssef ElSonbaty and
Nate Davis teamed to earn the #1 doubles win at 8-1 while
Andrew Hill and
Brett Krejci grabbed a #2 doubles victory at 8-2.
Alex Steinmetz and
Steffan Dwarkasingh also collected an 8-2 win at #3 doubles.
In singles,
Vladyslav Dyenyezhka posted a solid 6-0, 6-4 win as the Yellow Jackets' Jonathan Anderson's four game wins were the most by a Waynesburg athlete on the night. Only one other Pioneer gave up two game wins in a set while two others posted straight 6-0, 6-0 singles victories.
Malone will now compete in a total of seven matches during its spring break trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina next week. The first match is scheduled against Catholic University (D.C) on Monday (March 4th) at 8:30 a.m.
