Two Malone University athletes recently earned Student Athlete of the Week recognition from the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) following their outstanding performances this past weekend.
Hannah Haver, of the Pioneer volleyball team, and
Markus McFolling, of the football team, each collected the national honor.
Haver, a sophomore middle hitter from Fredricksburg, Ohio (Central Christian H.S.), helped Malone win the American Mideast Conference Postseason Tournament on Saturday as the Pioneers posted three-set victories over Walsh University and Mt. Vernon Nazarene University to secure the first NAIA National Championship berth in program history. Haver notched 3.83 kills and 3.0 digs per set in the two wins while also posting eight total blocks and a .310 attack percentage.
McFolling, a senior running back from Seaside, California (Monterey H.S.), led the Pioneers to a 56-21 victory over Olivet Nazarene (IL) University on Senior Day. McFolling wrapped up his Malone career with a flourish as he posted 236 yards on 30 carries, including a 72-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. His performance marked the second highest single-game rushing yardage total in school history. The big day also pushed McFolling to 1102 rushing yards on the year as he became just the fifth Pioneer to eclipse the 1000-yard mark in a single season.
