Malone University guard
Eric Coblentz was recently named the American Mideast Conference's Men's Basketball Player of the Week following his strong performance December 13-19 as the Pioneers tallied a 2-1 record in contests against NCAA Division I Youngstown State University, Lourdes College and NAIA Division II No. 17 Grace (IN) College.
Coblentz, a 6'2” junior from Hartville (Lake H.S.), averaged 16.3 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.0 steal per game, helping Malone improve to 9-4 on the season. Coblentz reached double figures in all three contests. His impressive week included a 21-point performance in a closely-contested loss at YSU on December 13th.
During the three-game stretch, Coblentz shot 43 percent from the field overall, 37 percent outside the arc, and converted 12-of-13 free throws for 92 percent.
Coblentz previously collected AMC Player of the Week honors after leading the Pioneers to a 2-1 record in games played November 15-20.
Malone will be back in action on Wednesday (December 29th) in Holland, Michigan as the squad takes on Madonna (MI) University in the opening round of the Hope College Holiday Tournament.
