Cross Country Teams Each Post Eighth-Place Finishes At All-Ohio Meet

Junior Tina Oprean earned an impressive sixth-place finish, among 298 runners, in 18:10.55 to pace the Malone women to an eighth-place team finish among 43 colleges and universities in the All-Ohio meet Saturday.

The Malone University men's and women's cross country teams each earned solid eighth-place finishes at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championships in Cedarville, Ohio on Saturday. In addition, the Pioneer women placed first among 13 teams in the Division II standings while the men's squad took third among 12 teams.

In the overall women's race, in which 43 Ohio colleges and universities participated, Malone pocketed its eighth-place finish with 253 points as Xavier University won the team title with 91 points. Kent State University took the runner-up spot with 116 points and the University of Dayton was third with 117 points.

In the overall men's race, among 44 teams in the field, Malone grabbed its eighth-place finish by tallying 228 points as the University of Cincinnati won the men's team title with 86 points.  Miami University was second with 115 points while Cedarville University took third with 160 points.

In the Division II standings, the Malone women earned their first-place finish with 44 points as Ashland University came in second with 60 points. The Pioneer men chalked up their third-place finish with 89 points as Cedarville won with 60 points.

The Malone women were paced by Tina Oprean who blazed the 5K course in a time of 18:10.55 for an impressive sixth-place finish among 298 runners in the race.  Sara Polatas was next for the squad in 46th place at 18:59.75.  Also scoring for the team were Katie King in 19:16.65 (58th), Mattison Rankin in 19:24.73 (69th) and Hannah Hartzler in 19:29.24 (77th). Also competing on the varsity unit for Malone were Madison Schuler in 19:39.97 (92nd) and Brynn Chaskel in 19:53.18 (111th).

For the Malone men, Andrew Trusty cruised through the 8K course in a time of 24:58.07 to finish an impressive ninth among 301 runners in the men's event.  Ryan Roush was next for the team, placing 34th in a time of 25:32.41.  Also scoring for the team were Mitch Williams in 25:48.03 (51st), Nick Fresenko in 25:59.77 (65th) and Nick Meeson in 26:03.31 (69th). Also competing for the varsity team were Jordan McKelley in 26:06.12 (71st) and Matt McConnell in 26:18.55 (86th).

The Malone teams will next compete at the Disney Classic in Orlando, Florida on Saturday, October 6th.
