The Malone University men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed in the first of two days of competition at the Spire Midwest Open, held at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio, on Friday night with only four events being held on day one.

The first event of the meet saw the Pioneer distance medley relay team of Madison Schuler, Emily Fisher, Mackenzie Keller and Tina Oprean finish second among a 10-team field in a time of 11:57.36. The mark broke the previous Malone record in the event by six seconds and also eclipsed the NCAA Div. II provisional national qualifying time.

In the women's 5000 meters, Katie King represented Malone and came in sixth among 16 runners in a time of 18:44.31.

For the Pioneer men, the 5000 meters was the only day-one competition for the squad as Nate Boyer led the way for a five-man Malone contingent, among 21 in the field, with an eighth-place finish in 15:43.85.  Brady Yoder was close behind in 11th in a time of 15:55.82.

Competition will conclude tomorrow (Saturday) beginning at 10:00 a.m.   Live stats will continue to be available.
