Deborah Simmers Named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week

Simmers led Malone to a 1-1 record last week after averaging 13 points, four rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.


Malone University women's basketball player Deborah Simmers was recently named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's South Division Player of the Week after helping the Pioneers post a 1-1 record in a pair of road contests.

Simmers averaged 13 points, four rebounds and 3.5 assists per game on the week.  The 5'9 senior guard tallied 13 points, four rebounds and three assists in a 70-60 win at Saginaw Valley State (MI) University on Thursday before tossing in 13 points, grabbing four boards and handing out four assists in a 69-62 loss at Wayne State (MI) University on Saturday.

On the season, Simmers is averaging 13.4 points and 3.7 rebounds per game while shooting 42 percent from the field and 83 percent from the free throw line.

Malone, currently 7-5 overall, returns to action on Thursday at home with a 6:00 p.m. contest against Ferris State (MI) University.
