Students from Malone University and Walsh University typically compete against each other as part of intercollegiate competition at the NCAA Div. II level. On October 17, students from the two institutions will compete in a different way and for a good cause.

Business students from both universities will compete to see who can collect the most food for the Stark County Hunger Task Force's Tailgate Against Hunger. The contest is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Belden Village and culminates October 17, the date of the Walsh vs. Malone football game at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. Fans bringing a can of food or donation toward the cause will receive a $2 discount off their game ticket for the 6 p.m. contest.

Key clubs from Jackson High School and GlenOak High School are also participating in the effort to collect food for the Stark County Hunger Task Force.

"This puts a twist on the idea of a typical tailgate party," said Chris Abrams, Malone vice president for student development. "Students will be bringing food to the game, but this time it will be for the most needy in our community. It's a great opportunity to demonstrate the profound impact of service to others."
