Men's Swimming & Diving Currently Fifth, Women Eighth At Wooster Invite

Carolin Friedrich broke the school record in the 500 yard freestyle, finishing with a 5:15.79 time.

Day One Results

The Malone University men's and women's swimming & diving teams are currently fifth (of nine teams) and eighth (among 10 teams), respectively, after day one of the three-day College of Wooster Invitational on Thursday.

After day one of competition, the Malone men have tallied 282.5 points, while Case Western Reserve University holds the lead with 523 points. The Malone women notched 127 points on the day, while Case Western Reserve University holds the lead with 427 points.

Two school records were broken on the day, one by senior Marta Jankowska and one by sophomore Carolin Friedrich.

For the women's team, Jankowska placed first during the 200 yard individual medley prelims with a 2:08.11 mark, which is now second best in Malone history. Hours later, she captured the top spot again at the finals, with a winning time of 2:06.63, and also broke the school record during the process. (old record was her own at 2:07.09 last season at GLIAC Championships).

The record-breaking performances kept coming for the Malone women as Friedrich broke the school record in the 500 yard freestyle. She notched a 5:15.79 mark and finished tenth overall in the event (old record was set by Friedrich at 5:16.76 last season at the GLIAC Championships).

The men's 200 yard freestyle relay team of Chris Eckard, Cory Boogaart, Hector Gonzalez, and Zachary Misak placed sixth in the prelims with a 1:31.22 time, but captured the title in the finals with a 1:24.30 mark. The 1:24.30 mark is now the fourth best time in Malone history.    

Misak, Tim Collet, Florian Zellin, and Eckard were members of the 400 yard medley relay unit that also notched a first-place finish with a winning time of 3:24.03.  

Impressive performances continued for Eckard and Misak, as they tallied a first and second place finish in the 50 yard freestyle, with a 21.14 and a 21.30 time respectively.   

Zellin placed first in the A final of the 200 yard individual medley with a 1:54.83 mark, after posting a 1:56.71 time in the prelims.

Day two of the three-day event will be on Friday, December 4th with prelims set for 10:00 a.m. and finals scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
