Day One ResultsAt the GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships in University Center, Michigan, after Saturday's first of two days of competition, the Malone men's team is currently in fifth place, among 10 teams scoring points, while the Pioneer women are in the ninth spot among 11 teams scoring.

In men's competition, Malone tallied 13 points as the University of Findlay was first with 37 points. In the women's meet, the Pioneers totaled six points as Grand Valley State University (MI) held the day one lead with 60.5 points.

For the women,
Lyndsey Bates posted an NCAA Div. II national provisional mark in the weight throw event with a toss of 55' 0.75" to finish 14th among 36 competitors. Her throw was just shy of her own school record of 55' 11.25".

Morgan Kelly placed 10th in the pole vault with a leap of 10' 8.25". The mark, which only one other women's Pioneer indoor vaulter has ever topped, neared Kelly's own personal best of 11' 1".

Sara Polatas paced a three-woman Malone contingent in the 5000 meters as she finished in a personal-best time of 17:31.69 (less than three seconds shy of an NCAA provisional mark) to finish seventh among 31 runners.Â
Sarah Meek was 11th in 18:03.55.

Emily Fisher placed 17th in the 400 meters in a time of 59.25 seconds.

In the long jump,
Tayler Carpenter finished 16th in 16' 4.5".

In the 60-meter dash prelims,
Crystal Barber paced Malone but came up just short of qualifying for the finals as she finished in the 11th spot in a time of 7.84 seconds.

Barber would later earn a lane in tomorrow's finals of the 200 meters as she clocked an eighth-best time of 25.44 seconds in the prelims. The mark was just .06 seconds off her own school record that she set earlier this season.Â

In the pentathlon, among 19 competitors,
Taryn Chapman tallied 3058 points to finish ninth while
Corrina Ruffener racked up 2749 points for 14th place. . Ruffener scored the most points in the 60-meter hurdles with 836 as she finished fourth in a time of 9.36 seconds. Chapman tallied her best point-total in the 800 meters with 765 as she took second in 2:24.41.

Among an 11-team field in the distance medley relay, the team of
Mattison Rankin, Fisher,
Erika Rector and
Hannah Campbell earned a fifth-place finish in a time of 11:59.88, which was an NCAA provisional mark and just off the school-record time of 11:57.36 set last season.

For the men, in the 60-meter hurdles prelims,
Lepear Smith posted the fourth-best time at 8.21 seconds, which was an NCAA provisional time, to qualify for tomorrow's finals.

Gage Black finished as the runner-up, among 28 entrants, in the 5000 meters with a time of 14:32.26 to tally an NCAA provisional mark and easily eclipse his own previous best time.
Nick Fresenko and
Jordan McKelley finished 11th and 12th, respectively, in the race with times of 14:56.01 and 15:12.61.

Among 11 teams in the distance medley relay, the unit of
Brandon Simmons,
Matt Shoup,
Matt Hendrix and
Scott Whitaker posted a fourth-place time of 10:07.93 which was less than ½ second off an NCAA provisional time.

In the weight throw, among 32 competitors,
Duke Taylor finished 12th with a throw of 56' 2.5".
