Pioneer Spotlight: This week's "Get to know the Malone Student-Athlete" segment features freshman women's golfer
Deidra Sauernheimer. Sauernheimer is a Strasburg, OH native who participated in her first Fall season with the Pioneers, where she competed in seven events.
- Why did you pick Malone?
-I picked Malone because it was an awesome Christian college that is not too far from where I'm from and of course, the golf too.
- What's your fondest memory at Malone?
-My fondest memory, so far, at Malone would have to have been at one of the hotel rooms that we stayed in during the Fall golf season. All of us were acting crazy and having a great time I really enjoyed it.
- What sports did you play in high school?
-In high school I played golf and basketball.
- What's your most embarrassing moment as an athlete?
-My most embarrassing moment as an athlete was during one of my tournaments in high school, I thought I could try to do this awesome shot and save myself but I actually hit my ball off of this huge tree and my ball went about 70 yards behind me.
- Who has been your biggest role model?
-My dad is definitely my biggest role model when it comes to sports. He taught me how to golf when I was still in diapers and he has always been there for me.
- What's your favorite Bible verse?
-Isaiah 40:29 "He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak."
- What's your favorite professional sport team(s)?
-Cleveland Cavaliers, Cleveland Indians
- What's your game-day routine?
-On golf tourney days I just take time to thank God for the opportunity that he has given me and I ask for strength for the day. After that, I picture myself out on the course making the best shots that I can.
- What do you like to do in your down time?
-In my down time I like to watch Netflix, drink coffee with friends, and just have a good time.
- What are your goals for the future?
-My plan is to become an Early Childhood Education teacher and hopefully coach a women's golf team.
The women's golf team tees off the spring season on March 9-10
th when they head to Hardeeville, SC to take part in the Hilton Head Lakes Invitational (hosted by Pfeiffer University).
