This week's "Pioneer Spotlight: Get to know the Malone Athletes" segment features sophomore softball player
Mikayla Fowler. In 2014, Fowler started and played all 41 games for the Pioneers as an outfielder. She scored 19 runs while adding nine RBI's, went 6-for-6 in stolen bases and had a season-high two stolen bases vs Lake Superior State (MI).
Why did you pick Malone?-It just felt right when I came on my visit. I also wanted to be able to stay close to my family.
What's your fondest memory at Malone?-I am hoping to make one within the next 3 years I have here playing softball.
What sports did you play in high school?-Volleyball and Softball
What's your most embarrassing moment as an athlete?-During a tryout we were doing timed base running from home to home. While I was running from second to third I fell flat on my face in front of everybody, lucky they let me redo my times.
Who has been your biggest role model?
-My mom and dad, for always believing in me even when I didn't, they have been there for me through everything. I would not be the person I am today without them.
What's your favorite Bible verse?
-Mark 9:23. And Jesus said to him, "'if you can'! All things are possible for one who believes."
What's your favorite professional sport team(s)?-Cleveland Indians
What's your game-day routine?-I have to listen to music on the bus rides to get me in the zone. Then after warming up I eat a snickers bar, and drink blue PowerAde.
What do you like to do in your down time?-I love taking pictures
What are your goals for the future?-I want to become a teacher not sure what grade yet, but whatever grade I teach I want to inspire my students, I want to make a difference in everyone of my students lives.
The first home softball game is scheduled for Tuesday, March 17, at 3:00 p.m. against non-conference opponent West Liberty University if the weather permits.
