Tyler Whitlatch Named GLIAC South Pitcher of the Week

Malone University starting pitcher Tyler Whitlatch has earned the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's (GLIAC) South Division Baseball Pitcher of the Week Award.

Whitlatch, a junior lefthander from Sebring, Ohio, tossed 7.1 shutout innings on Sunday to lead Malone to a 3-0 victory over No. 13 Grand Valley State (MI) University.  The 6'5 southpaw earned his third victory of the season after scattering five hits and striking out six.

Over his 51.2 innings of work this season, Whitlatch has compiled a 3-3 record with a 2.96 earned run average and one save.

Whitlatch is the third Pioneer hurler to garner GLIAC South Pitcher of the Week accolades this season, joining teammates Joe Costello and Cody Ballay.

Malone wrapped up the regular season with a 28-21 overall record and a 19-13 mark in GLIAC games.  The Pioneers will compete as the No. 5 seed in the six-team GLIAC Postseason Tournament that will be held May 7-10 at Athletes in Action Sports Complex in Xenia, Ohio.  The program's first NCAA Division II postseason game will start at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday against Grand Valley State, the tournament's No. 2 seed.
