Box Score
A week before its annual rivalry matchup with Walsh, the Malone University football team pitched a shutout in Saturday's 50-0 tune-up contest with the Haywood Crusaders.
Â
After the two teams traded punts on their opening possessions, the Pioneers struck for one of their four first-quarter touchdowns.
John Iacucci hit streaking receiver
Ashton Dulin down the middle of the field for a 60-yard touchdown pass.
Marcus Moeller's PAT attempt gave the hosts an early 7-0 lead.
Â
On the game's next play from scrimmage, a sideways Haywood pass, thought to be incomplete, was ruled a lateral. Linebacker
Ryan Weber picked up the live ball and scampered 31 yards for the score.
Â
Ahead 14-0 on Haywood's next drive, the Pioneers would go on to force a punt deep in Crusader territory. A high snap mishandled by the Haywood punter rolled out of the back of the endzone for a safety and a 16-0 advantage.
Â
On the ensuing kickoff,
Jordan Johnson received the ball at his own 16-yard line. After shedding a few tacklers and finding some open space, Johnson raced 84 yards for the score as the Pioneers went up 23-0.
Â
Johnson would reach the endzone again just five plays later. Following another Haywood punt, he fielded the low liner and ran virtually untouched down the right sideline. His 48-yard punt return touchdown gave Malone a 30-0 lead with 4:22 left in the first quarter.
Â
In the second quarter, Malone added another score when freshman
Damon Williams made a series of moves, starting off left edge before cutting right and finally making his way to the endzone from 14 yards out. The 37-0 score would remain the same heading into halftime.
Â
With a running clock in the second half, the Pioneers added a pair of
Calerb D'Haiti touchdowns from three and four yards out.
Matt Blasiole, the Pioneers' starting running back as well as the backup kicker, connected on an extra point try following D'Haits's second score to give Malone the 50-0 victory.
