Malone senior
Tyler Whitlatch has earned the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Pitcher of the Week Award from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) in recognition of his dominating performance against the University of Findlay last Friday.
Whitlatch, who was honored with Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) South Division Pitcher of the Week accolades earlier this week, racked up a career-high 11 strikeouts in the 9-1 victory over the Oilers. The 6'5" lefty allowed just three hits and walked none in the contest. After giving up a pair of seeing-eye singles in the top of the first, and another single in the top of the second, Whitlatch was perfect down the stretch, retiring the final 17 batters in order.
With the win, Whitlatch improved to 2-0 on the season and lowered his ERA to an even 2.00, which currently ranks 5th in the conference.
Malone returns to action Friday afternoon as the squad opens GLIAC play with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader at Lake Erie College. Whitlatch is slated to start game one against the Storm.
