The Malone University men's basketball team will play the first two games of a four-game home stand this week. The Pioneers will take on Alice Lloyd on Tuesday evening before facing West Virginia State on Saturday evening.

The Pioneers are 1-0 all-time against Alice Lloyd. The two teams faced off for the first time last season in a contest the Pioneers won 71-67. This will be the team's first meeting with West Virginia State.

The Pioneers are coming off of back-to-back double-digit wins last week. In their contest against Kentucky State, Malone had career-high scoring nights from Ty Jordan (35 points) and Daylan Haynie (22 points). Mitchell Spotleson is closing in on 1,000 points, currently sitting at 945 points. The Pioneers made an incredible 28 out of 30 free throws in the contest. Early on in the season, the Pioneers are leading the Great Midwest Athletic Conference with an 83.9% free throw percentage. The team has also made 51 out of 120 (42.5%) three pointers, the most three pointers made by a G-MAC team at this point in the season.

Alice Lloyd is off to a great start to their 2017-18 campaign, winning the first six games of the year. Alice Lloyd has scored over 90 points in every contest, four of which they scored over 100 points. Timmy Dalton is leading the team with 26.5 points per game on 63.2% shooting. Jake Allen is nearly averaging a double-double. He is scoring 16.5 points per game, while grabbing 9.8 rebounds. Allen has blocked 13 shots in six games so far.

 

West Virginia State Schedule | Roster | Statistics

Record: 4-1  

After dropping their season opener by three points, West Virginia State has one their last four contests. Their latest victory was a 106-100 victory over Fairmont State, who made it to the NCAA Division II National Championship game last season. West Virginia State also defeated fellow G-MAC team, Davis & Elkins, 109-87 this season. Earnest Jenkins is leading the team in scoring (20.3 points per game). Pat Johnson-Agwu is second on the team in scoring with 16.3 points per game. His 8.3 rebounds per game leads his team.
