The Malone University men's basketball team will begin Great Midwest Athletic Conference play this week with contests against Alderson Broaddus University and Davis & Elkins College. The Pioneers will begin their conference schedule in the comfort of their own gym.

All-time Series

The Pioneers are 1-1 against Alderson Broaddus all-time. Both of their meetings came last season. Alderson Broaddus won the first meeting 75-61. In the second half of the season the Pioneers came out on top 69-64. The Pioneers are 4-2 all-time against Davis & Elkins. Davis & Elkins won both games in the 2016-17 season.

Record: 5-1

The Pioneers are off to their first 5-1 start since the 2010-11 season. The Pioneers are doing the little things really well. Proof of that comes from their performance at the free throw line. The team's 84.5% from the charity stripe ranks fifth in the country. Malone is averaging 85.3 points per contest, the second most in the Great Midwest. While the Pioneers are shooting 49.9% from the field (2nd in G-MAC), they are holding their opponents to 39.2% (1st in the G-MAC) so far. Ty Jordan and Nate Sheppard are each off to great starts on the offensive end. Jordan is averaging 19.3 points per contest, while Sheppard is averaging 17.5 points per game. Mitchell Spotleson, who is closing in on 1,000 career points, is averaging 11 points per game as well, to go along with his seven rebounds per game.

Record: 4-1  

The Battlers are off to a 4-1 start, winning their last three contests. The Battlers trail only Malone in free throw percentage, shooting 74.7% from the line. Alderson Broaddus' Mike Davis is the leading scorer in the conference, averaging 21.2 points per game. Davis' teammate, Brandon Willis is fourth in the conference, averaging 19.4 points per game. Malik Bocook is fifth in the league in rebounding, averaging 7.6 rebounds per game. Bocook also averages 2.0 blocks per game.

 

Davis & Elkins Schedule | Roster | Statistics

Record: 1-3

The Senators will begin their conference play against Walsh on Thursday evening before making the trip to Malone on Saturday. Their one win so far this season was a 95-86 victory over Clarion. Despite the slow start, the Senators are firing from all cylinders beyond the arc. The team leads the conference with a 42.6% field goal percentage. Edmund Parker is leading the team in scoring so far, averaging 17.3 points per game. Trevor English is second in the conference in rebounding, grabbing 9.5 points per game.
