Men's Basketball on the Road for a Pair

The Malone University men's basketball team will play its first two road conference games of the season this week. The Pioneers will play at Hillsdale College on Thursday and at the University of Findlay on Saturday.

Record: 6-2 (1-1)  

The Pioneers went 1-1 in their first week of conference play last week. Malone lost a tough game by two to Alderson Broaddus before bouncing back to beat Davis and Elkins 71-65. The Pioneers lead the conference with an 80.8% free throw percentage and a 40.8% three-point percentage. Mitchell Spotleson is currently nine points away from scoring his 1,000th collegiate point as a Pioneer. Spotleson is averaging 10.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game for Malone right now. Ty Jordan is currently leading the conference in scoring, averaging 21.3 points per contest. Nate Sheppard is in the top ten in scoring as well, averaging 17.8 points per game.

Record: 7-2 (1-1)

Hillsdale began its conference schedule with two tough games that came down to the wire. Hillsdale was able to defeat Trevecca Nazarene University 76-73 in their conference opener, before falling to Kentucky Wesleyan College in overtime 75-68. Hillsdale is holding their opponents to 64.6 points per game, the best in the conference so far. Hillsdale is moving the ball really well to begin the season. The team is averaging 17.2 assists per game, the second most in the conference. They also have the second-best turnover margin, +4.22. Three players are averaging double-digit scoring for Hillsdale, with a fourth player who is  less than 0.5 points away from averaging double-digit points. Stedman Lowry leads the way with 13.8 points per game.

Record: 7-2 (2-0)

Findlay started their conference schedule off with a pair of wins over Kentucky Wesleyan and Trevecca Nazarene. Findlay is averaging 82.7 points per game, just 0.6 points per game more than Malone. They are outscoring their opponents by an average of 12.9 points. Findlay leads the conference in turnover margin with +6.22. They are turning the ball over just 9.6 times per game, while their opponents are turning it over 15.8 times per game. Taren Sullivan is the top scorer for Findlay. Sullivan averages 17.7 points per game, the seventh-best scoring average in the conference. Martyce Kimbrough follows Sullivan, scoring 17.1 points per game.
