LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Malone University women's lacrosse team was back in action on Monday evening at Warner University. The Pioneers moved to 3-0 on the year with a 12-4 triumph over the Royals (3-4).
Cam English led the way with five points on three goals and two assists. Multi-goal games were also credited to
Jorjia Meza (3),
Meg Ridgway (2),
Lexi Miller (2). Malone outshot their opponents 26-15.
Abbey Burns had a team-high ten draw controls. Meza collected four ground balls to lead the team.
The Pioneers claimed a 4-2 lead through the first quarter of action thanks to a pair of goals by English in the final three minutes of the period. A 4-1 second quarter pushed the Malone lead to 8-3 at the half. Meza netted two goals in this period.
The defenses settled in during the third period to keep the scoring low. Each team netted one goal in that frame, with Ridgway the one that scored while up a man for the Pioneers. English and Miller were able to put the game on ice in the fourth quarter, 11-5.
Sommer-Jo Grieser got the victory (3-0) in net with two saves.
Sydney Atkinson also received playing time for the Pioneers.
Malone has a quick turnaround before their next game at Webber International University, who is receiving votes in NAIA. That games starts at 3:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 4.
